Sponsored by the Fitness and Wellness Center, the program was started in Oct. and offers three designated paths on campus.
John Bobalik, coordinator of the Fitness Center, said the purpose of the Loops program is to give people an opportunity to add more activity to their daily lifestyle. People can choose from one of three paths on the campus grounds and walk the routes for fun or prizes, weather permitting.
The prizes for those wanting to take part in the contest are a key chain for those who walk 5 miles, a pin for those who walk 10 miles and a travel mug for those who walk 25 miles. The Loops program ends Dec. 8.
A new program will be offered in the spring and the designated paths will be marked off with more signs than the Fall Loops program.
Sheila Rezak, educational librarian, said she took part in the Loops program because she enjoys walking and participating in many of the programs offered by the Fitness and Wellness Center.
Rezak said she has taken part in other programs, such as the Lick the Holiday Pounds program and is planning to take part in the FRC classes which will be offered during stress free week which is during finals.
Wellness Coordinator Martha Lowery said walking is a great way to start exercising.
"Obviously, if people do a little walking each day in their lives, it will help their heart and stress level," said Lowery.
