Sofa King reigned victorious over the Kroons-N-Goons by a final score of 63-28 in the intramural flag football championship Monday night in the REC center gym.
The game was fast paced and both teams scored on their first two drives. However, Sofa King took a big lead and victory looked doubtful for the Kroons-N-Goons as they trailed big, 28-7 after the first half.
Entering the second half, the Kroons-N-Goons continued to compete hard and players were cheering each other on from the sidelines.
After scoring an early touchdown the Kroons-N-Goons recovered an onside kick but were unable to score.
Sofa King took advantage.
After another touchdown and an interception which was returned for a touchdown, Sofa King locked up their championship victory with well over a minute to play.
"We beat ourselves up," said Chris Mackin, a junior majoring in human resources and Kroons-N-Goons teammate.
"We had good team chemistry and good team work and that's what led to our victory," said Dragan Trakovski, a junior majoring in finance.
Sofa King capped off an undefeated season, as the team went 10-0 during the regular season and 3-0 in the playoffs.
"It was a long road in going undefeated," said John Metzger, a senior majoring in criminal justice. "We took it easy and took every game one at a time."
After the game, championship t-shirts were handed out to all the Sofa King players.
"We did have a few players who took the games a little too seriously, but overall, I think the season went well," said Matt Dudzik, intramural sports coordinator.
Changes are already being made for the next season of flag football. According to Dudzik, the current plan is to have half of the games played outside.
