Of the top seeded teams, two were defeated in the intramural volleyball playoffs this past Thursday in the REC Center Gym. The playoffs will continue this week, and the champions will be crowned.
South Divisions number one seeded Bigger Dogs were victorious in their first set against Hawaiian Punch, 21-15, but lost the next two sets 21-17 and 21-18.
In the North Division, number five seeded Big Dogs Revenge II defeated number four seeded Get Ripped via default, but they weren't done for the night as Big Dogs Revenge II competed in the second round of playoff games against The Eagles.
Big Dogs Revenge II took the first set 21-19, but came up short and lost the last two 22-20 each.
"I'm disappointed," said Patricia Mellon, an academic advisor in communication and member of Big Dogs Revenge II. "I'm so sad that it ended."
Also on the north court, This Won't Last Long took on the PUC Spikers. Despite a good effort, the Spikers came up short, 24-25, 21-18 and 21-8.
"We did well and I just hope that we can continue winning," said Dan Trzeciak, This Won't Last Long team member and sophomore TV Broadcasting majoring.
This Won't Last Long continued, as they played their second round playoff game against the North Divisions top seeded Bad News Bears.
The extra rest seemed to help out the Bears as they completed a sweep, winning both sets by a score of 21-15.
"I'm proud of our team," said freshman Madelyn Quiter, an undecided major and member of the Bad News Bears. "We did well working together and we were able to keep our undefeated streak alive."
Bump, Set, Spike was victorious over Pokemon in their first match by scores of 21-7 and 21-16. They moved on to face the number two seeded A Taint Away. The volley action was good and the teams split the first two games. Players from both teams showed a lot of enthusiasm and despite taking an early lead in the final game, Bump, Set, Spike lost 24-22.
