PUC accepted the resignation of Rob Jensen, assistant vice chancellor of health, recreation and sports, late last week.
Jensen, who had served as athletic director for five years, took full responsibility and said he is confident the problems will be corrected and the program will be improved under new leadership.
John Friend, the former PUC athletic director whom Jensen succeeded, has come out of retirement and agreed to serve as an athletic consultant to the university from Jan. 16 through July 31.
A new assistant vice chancellor is expected to fill the empty seat left by Jensen during that time.
The search for Jensen's successor will be coordinated by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Melinda Dalgarn. Among the top responsibilities of the successor will be to recruit a men's basketball coach to follow Head Coach Mike James, who resigned after last week's cancellation of the spring season.
Dalgarn suggested a temporary coach may be appointed to manage recruiting and handle other initial tasks necessary to resume the men's basketball program for the 2007-2008 season.
