Deep River Waterpark is not just for swimming. This summer park turns into an ice skating rink, making skating available until Feb. 25.

While most of us will not be competing in the next Olympic Winter Games, ice skating is still a fun way to get some exercise and to enjoy time with friends and family.
For the summer months, Deep River Waterpark is known throughout the area for being "Simply SplashTastic!". In the colder months, it could be said it is "Simply SkateTastic!"
The waterpark provides an area for ice skating and a concession stand for its visitors. While the feel of summer is still around -with various water slides towering over the park and the US 30 Surf Shop selling sunglasses and beach apparel - it is easy to get into the spirit of skating.
The rink is on top of concrete and has a wooden bench in the middle providing tired skaters a place to take a break. The park also provides walker-esque stands for children to hang onto to get the feel of skating.
On a visit shortly after Christmas, the park had a decent amount of guests, ranging from families to groups of friends to couples. There were both first time skaters and experienced skaters - who skated backwards and even did handstands on the ice.
According to a flier available in the US30 Surf Shop, skating is available from Nov. 24 until Feb. 25 as long as the weather is suitable for skating. The park is open from 2 p.m to 9 p.m on Thursdays, 2 p.m to 10 p.m on Fridays , 12 p.m to 10 p.m on Saturdays and 12 p.m to 9 p.m on Sundays, and is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The cost for skating is $3 for skaters 14 and up and $2 for those under 14 and for seniors age 62 and up. The rates are a dollar lower if you go in a group of 10 or more (which you have to call ahead to make arrangements) or if you have a current Deer River Waterpark pass.
Skate rental is $4 for everyone. For groups or those who have a waterpark pass the price is $3. There is no charge if you're with a group and plan not to skate.
