The men's basketball season is officially over but homecoming will still be taking place as scheduled against IIT. The women will be playing on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. rather than 4:30 p.m., which was their regularly scheduled tip off.
The rest of homecoming should take place as usual except there will be a faculty/staff v.s. alumni exhibition basketball moving in place of the women's game. The game will begin at 6 p.m.
There will then be a reception for the homecoming alumni and the finalists for the fight song contest will be revealed. They will perform their songs live before the game and the winner will be revealed at halftime along with the recipient of the PAAC Bob Hayes Athletic Alumni Award. When the fight song is announced PUC will be asked to sing it for the first time. The song will be available to listen to on the PUC website once a winner is chosen.
The evening will end with the Homecoming Dance which will take place at The Center from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The men's team has not had a season canceled since the basketball team was revived in the early 1980's, said Wes Lukoshus asst. vice chancellor for advancement.
The women had their 1994-95 season called off but returned the next season with a 7-5 record.
"I think most people come to see the men's games," said Student Activities Director Gloria Roldan-Schieb. "I think that it is a great opportunity for people to see the great talent that we have [from the women]."
The basketball season is currently up for grabs but homecoming is in no danger for the moment.
"Ideally, the focus would be for both teams to be in the spotlight," said Lukoshus, regarding the future of homecoming.
