PUC (4-14, 0-4) traveled to Bourbonnais Tuesday evening to challenge Olivet Nazarene University (11-10, 5-0). The Lady Tigers defeated PUC after a tough second half, 77-63.
"We actually did what we wanted to do in the second half. After all, Olivet averages 95 points per game," said Head Coach Dennis Smith.
Things started badly for the Lady Peregrines as PUC scored the first basket of the night for the opposition. Because the Peregrine's were lethargic and sloppy, the Lady Tigers soon overtook the lead.
Anger and emotions swept across the faces of PUC and with every shot that the Lady Tigers made, the Lady Peregrines seemed to get more frustrated.
Going into halftime, Olivet lead by a strong 24 points.
PUC stepped it up during the second half. The Lady Peregrines shot 50 percent, making 15 of the 30 field goals and were able to hold the Lady Tigers to only 21 percent, converting nine of the 42.
The Lady Peregrines came to within 10 points of the lead but Olivet refused to back down. Both teams put up an aggressive fight until the buzzer sounded and Olivet came out on top by 14.
"The team effort was good," said Smith. "We started to slow them down and get a hand in their faces. For 30 minutes the girls' did what they needed to do."
