Intramural soccer kicked off this past Monday night in the REC Center Gym with several games.
The Eurostars began the season in a very dominant way, shutting out Ram Rod by a final score of 20-0. The game was ended with a little over three minutes left due to the lopsided score.
"Aah-whoo," yelled Eurostar players from the sidelines as they watched teammate Sinisa Drageljevic, a junior majoring in accounting, score eight goals.
"I think we had a lot more experience, that's what helped us win," said Drageljevic about his team's performance.
Last seasons champions, Plutonic Splavin, lost their opening game to Mean Machine 10-6. Juan Saavedra, a sophomore majoring in health and fitness, was excited about his teams win and also hopes that the league can result in more for PUC soccer players.
"I hope that maybe this can lead to a college level team for the school," said Saavedra.
Sprague defeated Los Changos by a final of 12-11. Zach Bejaki, a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering, finished with six goals including a game-winning one with only 30 seconds remaining on the clock.
Sofa King won their first game via default over Atlantic FC who only had one of their players show up for the game.
Intramural Sports Coordinator Matt Dudzik is very excited about the new season and the interest among PUC students in the sport.
"This is our biggest turn out ever," said Dudzik. "This is our fourth season and the last three years we only had six teams. This time we have 10."
Other action saw the Cardinals defeat the PUC Fire 20-4.
All teams are given two points for each win and one for a tie. The amount of points a team has will determine seeding during the playoffs.
The season will continue every Monday for the next two months, with the playoffs taking place the first three weeks of April. If any games are called due to weather, teams will continue with the next week's schedule.
