"Overall we did decent. Once we get 40 minutes of consistency we'll be able to grasp more wins," said Head Coach Dennis Smith.
It took two tip-offs to start the game after the first one was knocked out-of-bounds by both teams. The Lady Eagles were able to put the first points on the board, but PUC played good defense and sophomore forward LaKeisha Hurst was able to add two shot blocks to her game statistics.
The Lady Peregrines found it hard to sink shots and with a lack of Peregrine unity on the court accompanied by bad passes, Robert Morris was able to break away from PUC on the scoreboard.
"I don't hear any talking. Nobodies talking," yelled Assistant Coach Rick Sullivan from the sidelines.
In the first half, 8 of PUC's 18 points came from the charity stripe where they shot 100 percent. The Lady Eagles led by 16 at the half.
"We need to see the ball and be more aggressive going to it," said Coach Smith.
Once again the Lady Peregrines emerged as a second half team. With more energy and unison they were able to reach 13 points of the lead but that's as close as they got.
The Lady Eagles ended the game 67-46.
"We did some good things in the second half and at least we got them in foul trouble," said Coach Smith.
To finish out the week the Lady Peregrines traveled to St. Xavier University Thursday to take on the third ranked team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Lady Cougars obtained their eighth conference win against PUC after a 79-56 defeat.
St. Xavier offense took charge early on and were never threatened throughout the night; dominating the boards the Lady Cougars seized 54 points in the first half.
Although PUC held them to only 13 in the last 20 minutes, St. Xavier grasped tightly to the lead ending the night with a 23 point deficit.
Smith led the team in points with 15, including a pair of 3-pointers and five-of-six from the stripe. While junior forward Shannon Dugan broke into the double digits with 11. Senior center Jessica Hamman, who had missed the last two games due to a shoulder injury pulled down six rebounds and added 10 points to the boards.
