MLB
Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood bruised his ribs last Thursday, when he slipped getting out of his hot tub. All you can do is laugh at this guy. This could be a sign of bad things to come for the Cubs.
Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera won his arbitration case, increasing his payroll from just under half a million to $7.4 million. It about time Cabrera got some decent money after being an All-Star and in a team of young players, being the role model.
Jose Contreras has already been named opening day starter for the White Sox. Mark Buehrle, who started the previous five opening days, has been dropped to the 3rd spot in the rotation after his terrible 2006 season. How can Ozzie possibly decide his opening day starter before Spring Training started?
The Twins opened camp with a questionable rotation. The only real question is how bad will it be? Johan Santana is the only recognizable starter on that team. Liriano is out for the season and Brad Radke retired. Hopefully they don't rely on their 2nd starter, a guy named Boof Bonser.
NFL
Patriots CB Asante Samuel and Bears LB Lance Briggs, both had franchise tags placed on them. The teams have a week to negotiate a long-term deal. Both of these players deserve what's coming to them. If not for Briggs, the Bears probably wouldn't have been in the Super Bowl and Samuel creates a defensive presence for the Pats.
After the sudden firing of Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer, the Chargers are in a quick search for a coach. If they had fired a coach who led them to the best record in the NFL, they wouldn't have a problem.
Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid left the team for personal reasons last week. Reid left at somewhat of a bad time with the NFL combine approaching, but it shouldn't hurt the team too much since it's early in the year.
NBA
The All-Star dunk contest proved to be a bust again, and harsh judging. Magic center Dwight Howard was about the only creative one, slapping a sticker of him at the top of the backboard as he received an ally-opp from his teammate. The dunk didn't impress the judges as Howard received less than what other players received for simple original dunks. The contest participants have hardly any creativity anymore and the dunk contest might be better off as no more.
Charles Barkley defeated 67-year-old Dick Bevetta in a charity foot race. The race was comical watching Barkley chug down the court and seeing an old man almost beat him. After the race the two shared a friendly kiss. Watch out Barkley, Tim Hardaway probably hates you now.
