PUC will be undergoing a comprehensive evaluation by two members from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. The Higher Learning Commission schedules a campus visit every four years. They will come April 11-13.
"This accrediting association helps the campus by guiding us through an evaluation system concerning how our students learn, how we meet the mission of the university, and how well we understand our students' needs," said Beth Pellicciotti, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Chancellor Howard Cohen said the process has helped with the school's strategic planning process and it is a process that helps the school continue to improve.
In May 2005, PUC sent a report to the Academic Quality Improvement Program, which sends back feedback about what is working and what opportunities of areas are needed for the campus to improve. From there, faculty members of the campus formed committees, ranging from areas dealing with whether the school is meeting the needs of the students to improving institutional leadership and communication, and gather data on improving these areas.
"Most of work that is needed in accessing the campus is decided as we move along and improve communication," said Regina Biddings-Muro, Executive Asst. to the Chancellor for Engagement at a town hall meeting held Feb 21 and 22. The meeting discussed AQIP's feedback to the campus and the purpose of the upcoming visit. Biddings-Muro was part of a committee focusing on performance evaluation and communication improvement and said while a system of sharing information with the various departments of the campus and community has been started, more has to be done to continue it so the information can be shared and learned from for the campus to grow and improve.
In addition to the upcoming visit, the Higher Learning Commission invites comments from the general public about substantive matters related to the quality of PUC or its academic programs The comments must be received by March 9 should include the name, address and telephone number of the person providing the comments.
