Student research day is an opportunity for graduate students to present independent research projects orally or in poster presentation form.
It will be held March 23 in the SUL for most of the day.
The undergraduate student awards will be presented after lunch to undergraduate students who are also working on independent research projects. This Student Research Day is only available to Purdue students.
Joseph Bularzik, director of the student research office, said there will be different student research projects and grants available to students.
Last year's attendance for the SRD was around 40.
"We are hoping to well exceed that…When the event began it was only available to science students," Bularzik said.
There are already over 20 people who have registered for the event. It will be open to students of all disciplines, and the USRA awards will be presented to a student from each discipline.
The Student Research Office has coordinated two independent student research activities available to students.
The Undergraduate Research Grant Program will fund student research projects which will then be presented during SRD.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation donates $2,000 directly to the student for participating.
The results of this research will also be displayed at the event. The first place award for student research on Student Research Day will be $300.
The Student Research Office is holding an event new to Purdue this year April 5.
All five locations: PUC, West Lafayette, North Central, Ft. Wayne and IUPUI will be participating in the student research event. This event is open to both graduates and undergraduates.
PUC winners from the USRA and graduate projects picked by the graduate office will be invited. Winners from this competition will also receive $500.
Bularzik is very happy with the events and sponsorship opportunities the Student Research Office makes available. Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Nabil Ibrahim, has also been instrumental in the professional development of the endeavor. Bularzik urged students to participate in this year's event.
