Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Nabil Ibrahim was in Lowell, Mass. Monday, touring the campus where he may become acting chancellor by this July. Ibrahim is one of three finalists for the top post at University of Massachussetts in Lowell.
The other two finalists are David Chang, chancellor of Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y. and U.S. Rep. Martin Meehan (D - Mass.). Meehan, a UMass-Lowell alumnus, is the front-runner but has not agreed to take the job.
"There is no way I have the job, and I haven't agreed to take the job. It's premature. There are a lot of interesting candidates," Meehan told The Eagle-Tribune last week.
Ibrahim has been with PUC since 2003. From 1998-2002, he was associate vice president and dean of graduate studies and research at San Jose State University. He was also an administrator and faculty member for 12 years at Bradley (Ill.) University.
The UMass-Lowell job pays $235,800 and University of Massachusetts President Jack Wilson is expected to give his recommendation March 14.
Ibrahim currently earns a salary of $175,074.96.
The person hired will assume duties as chancellor in July.
